Careers in Construction Month: Anthony Cole
Anthony Cole, Third-Year Apprentice, says “There’s a lot more to being an electrician than most people think. Every day is different, and you’re constantly learning and being challenged, but you also get an immense sense of personal satisfaction when you’re finished with a project, because you helped build it.”
What made you want to pursue a career in the construction industry?
I’ve always been fascinated with building things, and I enjoy working with my hands. Plus, you’re constantly being challenged and the learning never stops.
What would you say to someone who hasn’t thought about pursuing a career in the trades?
Working in the trades teaches you hard work, and how to wake up early and get things done. There’s also longevity in this industry because of the room for growth.
What do you enjoy most about working in the industry?
I enjoy starting a project and being able to be creative with my work. For instance, if I’m working on a pipe run as long as I make it from point A to point B, I can create my own route and make it look good. You’re also able to relate being in the field to real-life applications, not just your job. There’s a lot more to being an electrician than most people think. Every day is different and you get to understand how things work, such as lighting or what’s behind a wall.
What are your career goals?
I want to move through the ranks at Corbins. My end goal is to move towards the business side of things, like Project Management. For now, I’m working my way to be a Foreman.
